Been watching the Winter Olympics this year and it’s been a great experience. It’s a beautiful thing to see the best athletes in the world compete against one another as elite athletes. And of course, it’s fun to cheer for the USA team as they exemplify sportsmanship and athletic excellence.
The video from Italy is breath takingly beautiful and, to be honest, it makes me want to find a mountain somewhere to sit on for an extended time. It makes me want to sit and soak in the beauty of nature and tune out the chaos of modern life. But maybe that’s a story for another blog, who knows?
I’ve enjoyed watching the games, especially the speed skating, hockey, bobsled/luge, skiing and snowboarding. Curling is okay too, but it does get a little tedious at times, LOL. I love seeing athletes from all over the world succeed at the highest level.
I love the spirit of competition and goodwill between nations. I am sensitive to it right now, as ugliness, a lust for power and senseless division and infighting sweep the nation. It’s a dark time for the United States right now. The Olympics point us to something better, a higher goal that we can reach if we choose it. It’s inspiring to watch.
And when these athletes compete, the gold medal and a non-medal is so small- fractions of a second, that it’s hard to understand. There are so many inspiring stories from these Olympics- too many for one blog. So I’ll just leave it with the hopes you’ve had some time to watch the Olympics too!
Have a great week!
Ernie
