It’s getting hot. Pretty obvious but true. It’s getting hot. Really hot. Summer is here and of course this being Texas, it’s a hot time of the year. And it just seems like it always gets hotter, the heat always seems to be the hottest ever. Hotter and hotter, every year.
And every year about this time, right around the 4th of July weekend, the heat levels up in Texas. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hot up to this time too, but it’s a tolerable heat. We’re at the time of the summer where we cross the threshold into intolerable heat. It goes from warm to really warm, to hot, to really hot- those are the four seasons in Texas.
It always seems at about the 4th of July weekend God cranks the thermostat up and several months of side walk melting heat follow. I told my daughter this week my plan is to stay in the house for the next four months until it cools down. I feel for anyone who has to work outside in the hot summer sun.
You haven’t really lived until you burn your hand on your steering wheel or burn your leg touching the parking brake or keys. That’s Texas in the summer. Or, you get in your car and turn the air up and about the time you arrive, the car starts to cool down. Then, you do it all again on the way back.
But despite the heat, summer is a time to relax and enjoy life. I’m doing my best to enjoy my grandkids and kids, even in the heat. You stay indoors as much as you can and use the air conditioning to cool down. You go get an ice cream or a slushee. And sometimes in the evening or in the morning its cool enough to get out and enjoy the outdoors before it gets too hot.
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing this fourth of July weekend I hope it’s been great. Happy 4th of July and have a great weekend as we celebrate the 250th birthday of America.
Ernie
