In today’s blog, I’m introducing a new random series called Kitty Korner. This series will have stories and experiences about my cats. I know, Pulitzer Prize winning stuff, I’m sure! And if you are a dog lover, don’t despair, I may start one at some point for my canine friends, maybe call it Doggy Dissertations or something like that, we’ll see.

Anyway, I want to introduce you to my cats, Mushu and Mulan. They are sisters and if you look at their eyes, you can tell they are related to one another. Mulan is a Tuxedo Cat; Mushu is a Calico. They are both sweet and yet salty in their own ways. More on this later.
Okay, so here’s the latest story on the feline sisters. Lately Mushu lives for going in the back yard. She always wants to see what’s happening in the yard. Despite the neighbor’s dog barking nonstop, she wants to go outside. If I walk anywhere near the back door, she will follow. She runs forward expectantly and sometimes leaps forward with great hope in her heart that she will be able to sit on the back porch.

Mulan is a little more tentative, she’ll come out too, but cautiously and she loves to sit on the grass and relax. I’ve read statistics on the life span of outdoor cats, so I don’t let them out unless I can supervise them. But if I take out the trash or need to go into the garage, I’ll sometimes leave the back door open for them to go out and explore.
It’s very relaxing for all of us. It reminds me to stop and take the time to enjoy life. I’ll sit on the backsteps with a glass of ice water and watch the kitties explore the world. Sometimes they get brave and travel around a little, but for the most part they stay nearby. I can tell going outside stimulates their senses and they enjoy themselves.
Well, that’s about it for the first installment of Kitty Korner. Have a great week!
Ernie
